The Best Matcha Smoothie (V/GF)

My go to smoothie these days... Easy, fast and full of protein, antioxidants and creamy, sweet deliciousness! The perfect way to start the day...

Matcha has been long hailed for it's incredible health properties and has blown up in popularity over the past couple years in the wellness world. But it's not just matcha lattes anymore getting all the love, smoothies are making their way up the popularity ladder in ways to prepare this healthy green powder. It's got 10 times more antioxidants than a regular cup of green tea and one cup of it is equivalent to one cup of coffee, minus the dehydrating and inflammatory effects that accompany a typical cup of Joe. Plus, the caffeine "zing" you get from matcha will outlast that of coffee thanks to the amino acid L-Theanine which slows the release of caffeine and therefor reduces the "crash and burn" effect that a coffee high can have. In fact, I've been loving my matcha so much lately that I've actually replaced coffee with it altogether! I've been coffee free for 2 weeks now and I can honestly say I really don't miss it. Whaaaaat??!?!?? But that's impossible...right?!?

Wrong.

I really don't miss it, which is pretty nuts coming from someone who has drank coffee every morning since the age of 15, but I don't miss the rollercoaster highs and lows, plus my skin looks and feels better, and I personally think a matcha latte or smoothie is far more delicious than a typical cup of Joe in the morning.

It's become a daily obsession...so thank God it's a healthy one! You can enjoy this smoothie alone or you can turn it into a smoothie bowl by topping it with your favorite fruits, granola and some chia seeds. I personally like to add Vital Proteins collagen powder to mine to support healthy skin and bones, but that add-on is optional... so no worries if your pantry is sans collagen powder...you can still get your matcha smoothie party on!

Matcha Smoothie Recipe:

Total Time: Under 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup frozen leafy greens

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1 tablespoon almond butter

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla protein powder of choice (I use either Navitas or Amazing Grass)

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder (I used Numi Organic Teas)

  • (optional) 1 scoop collagen powder (I use Vital Proteins)

  • 1 cup almond milk

  • 1 small handful of ice

  • optional (add water to make it less thick)

Directions:

  1. Blend all ingredients together until smooth and serve! Can be topped with fruit and/or chia seeds for a little extra flavor, texture and omega-3s for heart health.

I hope you enjoy this smoothie as much as I do! Let me know what you think 😘. Here's to healthy, delicious starts and fueling our bodies with ingredients that nourish rather than deplete. From my heart to yours...❤️
